GUIDE TO CLEANING THE GUARDIAN BOUNDARY ON META QUEST 2/3

The Guardian safety system in Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 VR headsets is a built-in safety and spatial orientation system. It allows the headset to “understand” where you are, where the floor, walls, and boundaries of the play area are, and prevents the user from stepping outside the safe boundaries.
During the initial Guardian setup, the headset scans the surrounding space and stores this data in its memory. Based on this information, the system:
  • correctly determines the floor level;
  • accurately tracks the position and movements of the headset and controllers;
  • works stably in games and working VR applications;
  • displays warnings in a timely manner when approaching the boundaries of the zone.
Over time, the stored data of the protective grid may become outdated or distorted. This happens due to the movement of the headset between rooms, changes in lighting, rearrangement of furniture, or simply the accumulation of errors in the device's memory. As a result, problems may arise:
  • the floor height is determined incorrectly;
  • the headset “floats” or loses its position;
  • jerks, shifts, or image shaking appear;
  • games and applications run unstable.

To avoid such situations and ensure correct tracking, it is recommended to clean the Guardian protective mesh regularly. It is best to clean it at least once a day, and always before the start of a work shift, as the VR headset remembers its position in space and uses old data when it is turned on again.

For operators of VR arcades and commercial VR venues — especially those working within an Anvio VR entertainment franchise or any VR arcade franchise — this procedure is essential for keeping equipment stable.
